How many Jewish people live on Prince Edward Island?

As of the 2021 census, there are 165 Jewish people by religion living on PEI.

How many members does PEIJC have?

There are approximately 100 Jewish households year-round, and another 50 seasonal households.

What synagogues and temples are on PEI?

PEI is the only province in Canada without any synagogues or temples.

Are there any Orthodox Rabbis on PEI?

No. PEI is the only province in Canada with no rabbis. However, there are a number of rabbis in the Atlantic provinces who will provide Jewish services when needed.

Where can I get kosher food?

While there is no kosher butcher or kosher food section in any of the supermarkets, products with kosher labeling may be found in the grocery stores. Soika, a specialty European food market in Charlottetown, carries many Jewish and kosher foods.

What does it cost to join PEIJC?

The cost to join PEIJC for one year is $50 for families and $25 for individuals.

Can I make a donation to the PEIJC?

Yes! Donations may be made directly to PEIJC by etransfer to our treasurer, or if a tax receipt is desired, to Atlantic Jewish Council. Please specify that your donation is intended to be used by the PEIJC.

Can my children get a Jewish education here?

A long-time member offers Hebrew classes and B'nai Mitzvah preparation online. For more information, contact us.

Is it possible to get a Jewish burial in PEI?

Yes! The Belvedere Funeral home offers Jewish rituals and a visiting rabbi can perform the service. There is currently a Jewish section planned within the Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.

Does PEIJC observe the Jewish holidays?

Yes! The High Holy Days and many of the holidays are observed and celebrated, led by community members and often in members' homes. These are true Hamishe experiences.
